How Does EMTONE Work?

Most people assume EMTONE works the way a strong massage does: pressure, warmth and a little post-treatment glow. While the treatment can feel similar, the science behind it is not.

EMTONE combines two forms of energy that work simultaneously to address the underlying causes of cellulite, not just the surface symptoms. At The Wellness Clinic at New Boston Village, we chose EMTONE because its dual-energy approach produces results for cellulite that foam rollers and dry brushes cannot.

What Causes Cellulite?

Cellulite is not one problem. Two things are happening beneath the skin at the same time, and both have to be addressed if you want to see improvement.

Below the surface, fibrous bands of connective tissue pull down on the skin while fat pushes up against it. Meanwhile, your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin slows down with age, leaving the skin with less structural support to resist that tension. The dimpled texture you see with cellulite occurs when both forces are working against you at once.

Research estimates that 80% to 90% of post-pubertal women experience some degree of cellulite, regardless of their body weight or fitness level. Any treatment that only tackles one side of the cellulite equation is working with a serious handicap from the start.

How Does EMTONE Target Cellulite?

EMTONE combines two distinct forms of energy, each with a specific role in improving the appearance of cellulite. Together, they address both the skin and the connective tissue beneath it.

What Does Radiofrequency Energy Do for Cellulite?

The EMTONE treatment head delivers radiofrequency (RF) energy directly into the dermis, heating the deeper layers of your skin. That controlled heat triggers a biological response: existing collagen fibers begin to contract and remodel, and fibroblasts kick into gear producing new collagen.

Studies on dermal heating have shown that collagen structure starts to change once tissue reaches approximately 40 to 48 degrees Celsius, which is the therapeutic range EMTONE is designed to reach and maintain throughout your session.

What Does Targeted Pressure Energy Do for Cellulite?

The second is a mechanical, acoustic form of energy that works on the fibrous bands themselves. Rather than heating tissue, it applies rhythmic pressure to help loosen the connective tissue responsible for the dimpled appearance while supporting circulation in the area.

Why Is It Beneficial to Combine Them?

Unlike treatments that apply heat and mechanical stimulation one at a time, EMTONE delivers both simultaneously. Heating the skin while mechanically working the fibrous bands underneath allows both processes to reinforce each other. You are not treating one issue and crossing your fingers that it helps the other.

Can You Get Rid of Cellulite at Home?

It is easy to see why people reach for a foam roller, a massage gun or a dry brush first. These tools do apply mechanical pressure to the skin, which, as we have seen, can improve the appearance of cellulite. What they cannot do is deliver controlled, sustained heat to a precise depth in the dermis at the same time.

A foam roller or massage gun works on the surface and in the muscle layer beneath the fat, but neither reaches the dermal depth where collagen remodeling actually takes place. A warm shower or heating pad can briefly raise skin temperature, but neither can maintain tissue in that 40 to 48 degree Celsius range long enough or precisely enough to trigger lasting collagen change. Dry brushing works on surface circulation but has no effect on the fibrous bands pulling beneath the skin.

Without controlled heat reaching the dermis, these tools mainly create temporary changes in how the tissue feels or looks. They do not provide the sustained thermal stimulation needed to encourage new collagen production.

What Is an EMTONE Session Like?

Every EMTONE treatment plan starts with a conversation about your goals and areas of concern. You will be positioned comfortably on a treatment bed, and a conductive solution is applied to the skin before your provider begins.

You will feel warmth from the radiofrequency energy paired with a gentle, rhythmic vibration from the pressure component. Patients often compare it to a heated massage. When the treatment is over, you can leave your appointment and go straight back to your day.

How Long Does It Take to See Results From EMTONE?

Because EMTONE relies on your body’s natural healing response, improvements develop gradually. Your skin may feel tighter immediately after a session, but that initial firmness comes from heat temporarily affecting existing collagen fibers, not from newly formed tissue. New collagen and elastin take longer to develop. The most noticeable improvement tends to show up weeks after your last treatment.

Most EMTONE treatment plans call for a series of sessions spaced a week or two apart. Because it can take up to 12 weeks for your body to fully produce new collagen and elastin, patients typically see the most noticeable change in cellulite appearance and skin firmness within the first three months after completing their sessions.

Patient data backs that timeline. In a clinical study, 94% of patients reported satisfaction with their results, with improvements in both cellulite appearance and skin laxity becoming more visible over the following months.
